To study in Australia, you need to apply for a Student Visa in Australia. The application process itself can be rather complex. Here are the steps:
1. School Enrollment
After you decide on a place to study, you can send an application. Please note that not every academic provider can accept international students. Only the CRICOS-Registered schools, colleges or universities can accept international students.
2. Tuition Fee Payment
Upon receiving your application, the academic provider will assess it. After that, if your qualifications meet the requirements for your intended studies, the provider will issue a Letter of Offer or Letter of Acceptance. Next, you can make your first payment for your tuition fee based on the conditions on your Letter of Offer or Acceptance. The minimum payment that you have to make will vary depending on your chosen program and level of study.
3. Application of Student Visa in Australia
As soon as you accept the Letter of Offer or Letter of Acceptance, and make the first payment of your tuition fees, the academic provider will issue a Confirmation of Enrollment (COE). Then, you can start the process of your student visa application.
4. Gathering documents
There are some documents you have to provide with your student visa application, such as English proficiency test, and financial evidence. Those are the examples of necessary documents for your student visa application.
5. Waiting for visa decision
After completing the required documents, and submitting your student visa, there will be a waiting period of approximately 2 – 3 months, depending on your sector of studies, before any decision on your student visa. When you submit an application for a student visa from Australia, you will be granted a bridging visa that allows you to stay lawfully in Australia until your substantive visa application is finally determined.
Important to note: even though you are already in Australia, you still have to undergo the same process of enrollment and student visa application as applications made from outside of Australia.
Please note that not all visas allow you to apply for another visa from Australia. You have to consistently fulfill your visa conditions, and there will be consequences on any breaches of conditions.
