GENERAL TRANSPORTATION IN AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY
The MyWay ticket system is used for travel on the Canberra bus network. International students can apply for a MyWay smartcard, which entitles them a discounted rate per trip.
GENERAL TRANSPORTATION IN NEW SOUTH WALES
In New South Wales, an electronic OPAL card can be used for ferry bus and train services in Sydney, The Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Illawarra and Southern Highlands. International students in New South Wales are generally not entitled to obtain travel permits but may receive a discount each year.
GENERAL TRANSPORTATION IN NORTHERN TERRITORY
The Northern Territory offers discounted bus trips to all students. Only pay AUD $ 1.00 for the trip (up to three hours of travel), $ 2.00 for a daily ticket or $ 7.00 for weekly tickets, and for all high school, students can travel for free.
GENERAL TRANSPORTATION IN QUEENSLAND
International students studying in Queensland can apply for the Tertiary Transport Concession Card, which gives them a 50 percent discount on public transport fees.
They can travel using refillable paper tickets or refillable electronic cards at bus, train, tram and ferry services.
Fees are calculated based on the zone where you travel, and whether you are traveling on weekdays or weekends.
GENERAL TRANSPORTATION IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA
Full-time international students studying in South Australia are entitled to a concession fee for travel on tram, train and bus services. Single and Daily tickets are available, as well as a rechargeable electronic Metrocard.
GENERAL TRANSPORTATION IN TASMANIA
Hobart, Launceston, and Burnie have local bus services that use the electronic Greencard system, along with single and daily tickets. Students aged 18 years or younger are allowed to travel freely from their place of study during the period of Free Travel (7 am to 7 pm on weekdays). Full-time students over 18 are entitled to concession fees.
GENERAL TRANSPORTATION IN VICTORIA
Victoria connects with tram, rail and bus networks, and visitors can travel by electronic smart card ‘Myki’. Currently, international students are not qualifying for concession fees in Victoria, but have the option of a 50 percent discount for annual payments (Yearly).
They must however be enrolled in participating institutions and study full-time undergraduate courses or higher level VET courses.
GENERAL TRANSPORTATION IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Perth and Fremantle are serviced by train, bus, and ferries. Full-time international students in Western Australia can qualify for a Tertiary SmartRider card, which allows them to get a concession pass.
For buses operating in downtown Perth, Fremantle and Joondalup (CAT buses) can be used free of charge. There are also a number of free travel zones for bus and train travel in Perth.
